Aquinas Church of England Education Trust

Trustee

This is a volunteer role. Trustees make up the board of trustees, and they are both the charity trustees and company directors of the academy trust. The board of trustees is the decision-making body of the trust and is accountable and responsible for the academies in our trust. The appointed Trustee would be asked, after a period of familiarity, to chair the People, Performance and Development Committee which focuses on staff development throughout our Trust. Those with a background in people management, gained in either the public or private sector, would be well positioned to succeed in this role.

We would particularly welcome expressions of interest from individuals based in East Sussex, to reflect our growth in the County.

Personal attributes

Desirable characteristics:

  • We welcome people who bring relevant strengths, strong values, and a willingness to learn.
  • We want to strengthen our Trust Board through the appointment of a Trustee with experience in HR, people strategy, organisational development, culture, wellbeing, EDI or change management.
  • Personal qualities such as integrity, judgement, and alignment with our mission are essential.
  • High levels of integrity, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Commitment to the Nolan Principles of Public Life (selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership).
  • Ability to commit sufficient time to attend Board meetings, committee meetings, development sessions and school visits. Currently ten per annum.
  • Passion for improving educational outcomes and supporting children and young people.

In return, we offer:

  • The opportunity to shape the strategic direction and people culture of a growing Multi-Academy Trust serving children and young people
  • A meaningful non-executive leadership role where your HR expertise will have tangible impact at Board level
  • Professional development through governance training, sector briefings, and networking with experienced trustees and education leaders
  • The chance to contribute to workforce strategy, organisational development and long-term sustainability
  • A collaborative, values-driven Board environment committed to high standards, integrity and continuous improvement

We would be pleased to welcome you for an informal visit prior to any submission of interest.
